Who We Are
Founded in the fall of 1949,
Bethesda has been ministering to Madison and the
surrounding communities for over fifty-five
years. Our style of worship is contemporary with
music that is full of life and messages that are
relevant to the world we live in. We are a
community of believers that consist of various
denominational backgrounds with our common bond
being our faith in Jesus Christ. We place a
great emphasis on ministering to the entire
family through our various children's, youth,
and adult programs. As a Bible believing church
we recognize that it is through God's Word that
we receive insight, assurance, hope, healing and
direction for our lives.
Our Relationships
With the understanding that we are not alone,
Bethesda is committed to connecting with the
greater Body of Christ in our community through
prayer and praise gatherings, citywide
conferences/crusades, monthly pastors prayer
gatherings, and other unified gatherings. In
addition, Bethesda is a member of the
Evangelistic Missionary Fellowship, (EMF) which
is an organization of pastors, churches,
Christian workers, and missionaries committed to
promoting the Kingdom of God throughout the
earth. Through a networking process the E.M.F.
is able to plant new churches and strengthen
existing congregations nationally, as well as
support missionaries and mission works around
the world.
What We Believe
The Scriptures - We
believe the sixty-six books of the Old and New
Testaments, as originally given, to be inerrant,
authoritative, and inspired by God and thus the
only standard for matters of faith and practice.
God - We believe there is only one
God, but that he has revealed Himself eternally
in three persons: God the Father, God the Son
(Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. We
believe that these three persons, though
distinct in function, are equal in power and
glory.
Jesus Christ - We believe that Jesus
Christ, the eternal Son of God, is the only
Savior of mankind. We believe in His deity, His
humanity, His virgin birth, His sinless life,
His miracle-working power, His atoning death,
His bodily resurrection and ascension into
heaven, His present intercessory ministry on
behalf of His church, and His soon, literal, and
physical return to earth.
Man - We believe in both the dignity
and the depravity of man. We believe that Adam
and Eve were created sinless in the image of God
but that they sinned and thereby plunged the
entire human race into sin and death.
Salvation - We believe that the Lord
Jesus Christ is God's only way of salvation and
that God gives the gift of eternal life by His
grace to all those who repent of their sins and
put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and
Lord.
Holy Spirit - We believe that the Holy
Spirit is the agent of conviction and
regeneration, the teacher who guides us into all
truth, and the giver of all spiritual gifts. We
believe that the baptism in or infilling with
the Holy Spirit is available to all believers,
necessary for power in witness and ministry, and
outwardly evidenced initially through the
supernatural gifts of the Spirit.
Satan - We believe in the reality of
Satan and evil spirits and their deceptive and
destructive endeavor to lead men into sin and
bondage and often to afflict them with disease
and infirmity. We believe that Christians may
achieve victory over sin and bondage, experience
healing from diseases and infirmities, and
exercise authority over Satan and demons through
the shed blood of Christ and the power of the
Holy Spirit.
The Church - We believe that the true
church is the universal body of genuine
believers in Jesus Christ. We believe that the
local church is to be led by pastors/elders, who
are in turn assisted by deacons/servant leaders.
The ordinances given by Christ to His church are
water baptism and observance of the Lord's
Supper (communion). We believe that the church's
purpose on earth is to glorify God by
worshipping Him, edifying His people, and
evangelizing the nations.
